Bomb shelters for the high-risk youth at Nirim Youth Village
The Nirim Youth Village operates a unique therapeutic educational program for high-risk teens,
providing many with their final opportunity to reintegrate into society as contributing, normative
citizens.
The village is located in Bustan HaGalil, in close proximity to the Lebanese border. The area is highly
exposed and vulnerable to missile attacks from Lebanon, and missile alert sirens are frequent.
According to Israeli Home Front Command directives, everyone in the area must stay within a 30-
second walk from a bomb shelter. Unfortunately, Nirim Youth Village's facility does not have nearly enough shelters to
meet this requirement.
During the first month of the war, the youth village evacuated half of the village teenagers to temporary alternative
sites in the center of the country. They soon realized that these temporary solutions make it impossible
to maintain reasonable educational and therapeutic routines for the youth. As a result, teen progress
suffers, and at times, the therapeutic process is harmed.
In order to enable high-risk teens to continue their critical rehabilitation, they must return them to the
village! Resuming routine activities in the village for these adolescents will only be possible if they can
provide adequate bomb shelter protection for everyone.
We will provide with the matching of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, 8 shelters to the Nirim Youth Village.
